Polaris Fashion Place’s newest destination is ready to welcome customers.
J’s Sweet Treats boutique bakery will mark its grand opening Friday at the mall. It is located on the upper level, across from Sak’s Fifth Avenue.
The ribbon cutting will be held at 3 p.m.
Founder Juana Williams opened her first bakery at 1540 Parsons Ave. in South Columbus last year – a week before the first Covid-19 pandemic restrictions were put in place. She started her business as a popup in 2016.
The Polaris bakery will feature expected favorites such as cupcakes, lemon bars and luxe shakes as well as new menu items, including extreme dipped apples and an expanded selection of grab-and-go cakes.
On Friday, the shop will provide entertainment, prizes and giveaways. There will be music by DJ Beat Banguz, edible art by Nichole Burton, a photo booth hosted by Jehan Inc. and Comfort Photography and a balloon artist.
Sweepstakes prizes include a dozen cupcakes a month for six months, a three-tier wedding cake that can feed as many as 50 or a three-hour cake decorating session. The first 100 customers will receive a coupon good for 20% off their next purchase.
“Our guests are always changing and evolving, and at Polaris Fashion Place, we want to be able to offer them fun items that they would not be able to find anywhere else,” Polaris General Manager Tamra Bower said in a release. “We are so happy to be able to partner with another local, small business and help them grow in our community.”
Williams spoke with Business First last month about opening and building her business during the pandemic and being part of a new program through the Columbus Urban League and Columbus Chamber of Commerce that was designed to boost minority-owned businesses with membership and networking opportunities.
The Polaris shop will allow J’s Sweet Treats to expand its offerings, including cards, candles and other gift items.
It will function as a second pick-up point option for custom cake orders as well, particularly those north of I-270.
Williams’ work has received national notice having been featured on The Drew Barrymore Show and Bake it Like Buddy with Buddy Valestro.
