My Brother’s Closet

Suiting Up to Beat Poverty

My Brother’s Closet

Hard Outcomes: Move chronically unemployed men into the workforce and connect them to resources integral to long-term stability. We’ve suited more than 1,000 men, including more than 250 in 2018 alone, and earned over $25,000 in social enterprise income.

Objectives: Improve the odds of success with appropriate interview attire and mentors who can encourage and support real growth.

Approach: Target ex-offenders with incomes at or below 200% of poverty who are enrolled in a workforce initiative. Schedule eligible men for a “free suiting” where a mentor/coach helps them create a professional appearance for job interviews and serve as a mentor and coach.

Evidence: Just as “dress for success” builds confidence, a new suit and new attitude benefit individuals intent on landing a first or first-in-a-long time job.

Services are funded by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and Administered by FCDJFS. In partnership with Goodwill Columbus.
