Hard Outcomes: Employ un- or under-employed people. Help them establish and achieve career goals. The first 20 participants will earn a certificate in customer service.
Objectives: Evaluate each person’s educational and career capacity. Set personal improvement goals and invite participants to courses leading to new credentials or certificates. Ensure each secures a stable job.
Approach: Pair participants with coaches for assessment and goal-setting. Teach resume-writing, interviewing and appropriate workplace behaviors. Connect interested participants to hospitality sector certification courses. Place each in secure employment and continue working toward long-term stability.
Evidence: Thirty-four percent of African Americans in Ohio live in poverty, and even those working earn median annual incomes that are $20,000 less than white households. A criminal record often limits employment options.
