COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — It’s not football legendary wide receiver and former Buckeye Cris Carter is discussing today… but another passion. Former Ohio State football great Cris Carter returned to Columbus to help with free COVID-19 testing in Central Ohio
“There’s a lot of misinformation out there about testing, especially in the underserved communities,” said Carter.
He’s teamed up with the Columbus Urban League and Scott Schiff and Associates to bring free COVID-19 testing to anyone without insurance.
“We go right through the cares act. No billing, no inconvenience. We get them registered and from the time we get that swab and get it into our lab back in Miami with Lab 24, then 72 hours, they will get a result,” he said.
Carter says these are the same type of tests that the professional athletes are getting.
“It’s the same test Lebron James is getting, the same testing for the NFL. We are working with the Navy. It is the best testing out there and regardless of what you hear, we are not getting out of this pandemic without testing.”
If you missed today’s test, there’s another one set up for Saturday. It’s at the Africentric Center on Allegheny Avenue from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
When Carter was asked about the state of Big Ten football, he says he supports the decision to postpone fall sports right now. He says it’s all about safety.
