Fishing with Dad event transitioning to Urban Family Development Center

Dear Partners and Colleagues,

As organizations evolve and community needs change, it becomes important to make thoughtful decisions about how best to offer results-oriented services and responsive programming. After this kind of careful evaluation and planning, we have mutually agreed that responsibility for the annual Fishing with Dad event will shift from the Columbus Urban League to the Urban Family Development Center (UFDC).

It is hard to let go of such a wonderful celebration of fathers and families. Fishing with Dad has been a part of your Columbus Urban League for nearly fifteen years. We’ve been blessed to host thousands of Dads and their children, offering a positive way to spotlight and honor men who work hard to be a role model and caregivers. The event has created special, lasting memories. It also has brought urban families outside to learn more about the sport of fishing, which is why we’ve enjoyed many sponsors but none more faithful than the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Kroger, Hazen & Sawyer, City of Columbus, Coca-Cola, and countless others.

Our team has known and worked with David Fluellen, Founder & CEO of UFDC, for many years and in many roles. UFDC has provided comprehensive service throughout Franklin County since 2014. Their dedication to supporting urban Dads and families is exemplary. UFDC is committed to devoting the time and attention to Fishing with Dad that this event deserves. Meanwhile, CUL will refocus on achieving our goal of transitioning from a social service organization to a wealth-building powerhouse, connecting people to high-wage jobs, and imparting smart financial strategies.
