Fishing with Dad
1069 Jager Street 43206
At the Columbus Urban League, our initiatives in family stabilization empower families with life-changing strategies to improve their abilities to be self-sufficient and meet their responsibilities to their families. At the same time, we know that children with positive father figures are more likely to achieve in school—the greatest path out of poverty for our next generation.
During Father’s Day weekend, the Columbus Urban League’s African American Male Initiative (AAMI) hosts its signature annual “Fishing with Dad” event, bringing together fathers and children from all across Franklin County. Together, the fathers and their children learn about water safety, knot tying, casting, catching and identifying fish.
With this event, we are able to provide aquatics education courses, fishing poles, food, fun, and entertainment to over 1000 people! It is always a huge success and has been made possible by the generous donations from local businesses and organizations. It is truly a memorable bonding experience.
