A spokesperson for the city council says $ 275,000 is the proposed amount. This means that 2,750 Columbus residents will receive an incentive if they pass.
Columbus, Ohio — The Columbus City Council voted in favor of a proposal to pay city residents for COVID-19 vaccination.
City council members voted on Monday Vaccine Green ProgramThis includes a $ 100 incentive for city dwellers who have been vaccinated with COVID-19 since Monday. City council members are still working to understand who is eligible and how residents can apply.
“For Pfizer or Moderna, it costs $ 50 each to prove the first and second doses, and $ 100 for a single dose of J & J,” said Councilor Elizabeth Brown.
The proposed funding comes from a $ 275,000 grant. This means that 2,750 Columbus residents can receive payments.
The Columbus Urban League will be in charge of the program. Stephanie Hightower is the president and CEO of the organization. She says offering a $ 100 incentive breaks many barriers to low-income, underserved communities.
“They can’t quit their jobs like us. They don’t have the same means of transportation as some of us. They need access to get vaccinated, so all the barriers Let’s get rid of it, “said Hightower.
“This is not an incentive program,” Hardin said, making it clear that people will have access to the vaccine.
For eligibility, only city residents vaccinated after Monday will receive $ 100.
“If it’s really easy to get the vaccine, congratulations if you already have it. Your reward is that you’ve been vaccinated from this terrible illness. There are other barriers to vaccination. In some cases, that’s what we’re aiming for, “said Councilor Brown.
There are two more draws for the state-wide “Vax-a-Million” lottery. Ohio people who have been vaccinated at least once with the COVID-19 vaccine are eligible to enroll.
