As one of the highest ranking African American women in politics, she said she is passionate about pushing women to advance not only in politics, but the workplace.

“I think the thing for women I’d like to say is we belong here. And that’s the first step of feeling that you belong. And here’s the good thing, having Kamala Harris as vice president makes it real,” Beatty said. She says women shouldn’t doubt themselves.

It’s our time to make a difference
“Unless we advance America, whether that’s in corporate America, whether that’s in social justice or the injustices that we are fighting against we have to do a thing I call going from agony to action,” she said.

The congresswoman knows action after taking part in the downtown Columbus protests over the summer where she was pepper sprayed while standing up and pushing an end to systemic racism.

Beatty says there’s no time like the present to get involved.

“It’s our time to make a difference, let’s just go out there and get it because we have women power,” she said.

Beatty announced Tuesday that she would not run for the open U.S. Senate seat as Senator Portman is set to retire.
