Empowerment Day 2023 celebrated businesses and community leaders championing change and paving the way for equitable economic and social impact. Our congratulations to Bath & Body Works (for-profit Honda Award recipient), Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority (not-for-profit Honda Award recipient) and Denise Robinson (Nationwide Social Justice Award recipient).
Over the past year, your Columbus Urban League has begun living out and advocating for a new approach to advancing racial equity and social justice. We have been focused and intentional to immerse our team and integrate into our systems the principles of asset-framing.
Likewise, our two dynamic Empowerment Day panelists went above and beyond in the work of dismantling systemic racism — one, an R&B musician who used friendship to find common ground with members of the KKK; and the other, an attorney who fought for justice for the families of the Birmingham Church Bombing. Their powerful stories are examples we can all learn from.
Our 48th annual Empowerment Day, and the stories shared on this page, highlighted our ongoing efforts to strengthen our community, cultivate unity, and build a legacy that will support all of Greater Columbus. Special thanks to our many great sponsors that made it all possible.
