The Columbus Urban League’s Head Start Academy’s are designed to leverage the skills, talents and resources of the CUL, in service of our young students.  We strive to be the premier 21st century Early Childhood Education service provider that is preparing young students for academic success as they transition to their next level of learning.  Our School Readiness Goals target the domains of language and literacy development, cognition and general knowledge, approaches to learning, physical well-being and motor development, and social and emotional development.

The  HSA’s integrate the expertise of key community stakeholder throughout its design.  Some key stakeholders in partnership with the CUL HSA’s are COSI, The Ohio State University, Columbus City Schools,, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, YMCA of Central Ohio, Action for Children, and the Columbus Zoo to name a few.  The CUL is currently offering scholarships for its HSA’s.  If you feel that this is an opportunity for your family to get a head start on your child’s education, don’t wait…join the Columbus Urban League Head Start Academy!

Head Start Enrollment

Parents can visit any of our sites to enroll or call our Academy Administrators, Jovanna Tyree 614-749-1792 or Joyce Grimes 614-645-3989 to pick up an application. We currently serve children age 3-5 years old residing in zipcode 43207. To complete an application, please bring the following items:

  • Verification of child’s age
  • Verification of household income
  • Parent or guardian picture ID
  • Verification of residency
  • Child’s shot records
  • Child’s physical exam
  • Child’s dental exam

Spotlight: Jerry Revish of 10TV  & Shirley Duncan, former educator and wife of Judge Robert Duncan, are included in the individuals  who have donate their time to read to the children in the Head Start Academy.
