A Window of Opportunities
Are you or someone you know new to the workforce, unemployed,l ooking for a better job, seeking a fresh start in life, or just wanting to build or revive a career? If so, the Career Development Services Department of the Columbus Urban League is a great place to start.
Career Development Services provides employment opportunities for African Americans and ther persons through training, skill development, and vocational assessment. In addition, we have a resource center that contains computers to assist with online job search and employment bank books that include daily job leads.
We are experts in educational and job preparation programs for those who experience barriers to employment. Our goal is to provide individuals with customized career development services that will equip them for today’s workplace.
All programs are at no cost to participants, and are offered at the offices of the Columbus Urban League or at community sites.

Am I eligible to participate?
Each program has specific age, gender, income or other requirements for participation. Review the program overviews to determine if you qualify.
What does it cost?
There is no cost to individuals in Career Development Services programs. For certain programs, participants may receive financial compensation for training as well as transportation assistance.
Can you guarantee me a job?
The goal of Career Development Services is to open a window of opportunities for those that participate in our programs through education, skills development, training, placement and resources. We provide guidance, career planning and referral services for job seekers that assist in successful employment opportunities. However, we cannot guarantee an immediate job. |

| PROGRAMS : Future Leaders Infiltrating Greater Heights Through Training – FLIGHTT |
| Assisting unemployed persons, women in transition and others experiencing barriers to employment. |

FLIGHTT assists unemployed individuals, with an emphasis on African-American women leaving public assistance and others experiencing significant barriers to employment. The goal is to place individuals into full and part-time employment. The program offers:
- Personal development and computer training
- Mock interview preparation
- Vocational identity assessment
- Short- and long-term career planning
- Job placement assistance
- Supportive services
- Four hours of daily classroom sessions Monday through Thursday |

Defining Achieving Purpose - DAP
Preparing young African-American males for the workplace
DAP connects African-American males between the ages of 18-24 to employment using a culturally-sensitive approach. Key components of the program include:
- Personal development, cultural enrichment and computer training
- Infusion of core values of Kwanzaa principles
- Role modeling sessions
- Vocational identity assessment
- Multiple intelligence assessment
- Off-site team building activities
- Short- and long-term career planning
- Job placement assistance
- Financial compensation for attending training
- Mock interviews

Urban Youth Empowerment – UYEP
Reconnecting out-of-school and adjudicated youth to employment through education
Youth ages 18-21 that are out of school and/or adjudicated and are re-entering community life can qualify for UYEP. The program reconnects these youth to employment through education.
The Program consists of:
- Personal development training
- Community service internships
- Employment internships
- Job placement assistance
- GED or high school diploma preparation
- College prep training
- Financial compensation for attending training
- Transportation assistance
- Classroom sessions Monday through Thursday
- Supportive services
- Off-site team-building activities |

| By the end of the program, participants will be able to earn a GED or high school diploma, secure full-time employment, gain assistance in enrolling into college, or enroll in one of a number of occupational training opportunities. |

Labor Education Advancement
Program II and Step Up – LEAP II
Providing building trades and construction career opportunities
The Leap II and Step-Up Program was created to help unemployed and underemployed individuals, including minorities and females, achieve a successful and long-term career in the building trades and construction industries.
Along with construction-related training, the program offers:
- Apprenticeships
- Community service activities
- Supportive services
- Case management services
- Job placement assistance
- Vocational identity assessment
