Before you explore our site, I have a few questions for you. Do you have a purpose in life? Something that you are passionate about that you think is profoundly important? Does it include making a difference in the lives of others?

For far too many citizens of central Ohio, the prevailing social conditions serve as barriers to learning, obtaining a decent living wage, home ownership, and economic prosperity. At the Columbus Urban League, the Board, staff, and volunteers believe that something can be done to promote greater opportunity for all and to address the stresses and strains that impact the full participation of individuals in our society. We invite your help in achieving these worthy goals.

As the great American Pragmatist John Dewey once noted, “the measure of the worth of any institution is its effect in enriching and enlarging human experience.” The Columbus Urban League is a pragmatic organization, one that has been around for almost 100 years, with staff dedicated to renewing social life by taking actions that empower communities and change lives. As the term “league” implies, we don't intend to go at it alone. The leadership of the organization enthusiastically builds relationships with other organizations in our community to promote and take action on our common interests. Our work is enabled by the support of its talented and generous board members, partnerships with leading corporations in our community, government agencies, the United Way of Central Ohio, and the energy and resources provided by people like you. The Columbus Urban League is also part of a greater “movement,” one of over 100 Urban League Affiliates throughout the country, focused on empowering all Americans to be full participants in the economic and social mainstream of this nation.
